Frequently Asked Questions

 1. Who provides your service and what credentials do they have?

Our services are provided by registered nurses that have many years of nursing experience and are highly experienced in case management. There are physician advisors at FHA and we also consult with medical specialists that are available to offer guidance. FHA employs allied health professionals such as registered dietitians, social workers and pharmacists. All of our employees and advisors are licensed by their respective licensing boards.

2. When will I get an answer if I send an email or leave a message on your phone?

Email messages and inquiries are answered at any time of day or night. During the day they are answered within a few hours, and messages left at night are answered first thing in the morning, 7 days per week. Phone messages are answered as soon as an intake coordinator is available, but usually within an hour of the call.

3. Doesn’t my family doctor provide this service to me?

Most family doctors would be happy to help you; however, due to the complexity of the system, doctors have little time. In-depth education and navigating the health care system can take many hours and most doctors do not have the time or resources to provide this service. They are however very supportive of our service and express relief that their patients are being helped.

4. Where do you send your clients for care?

There are many considerations in the decision to get access for our clients. If our client wants to stay as close to home as possible, then we look for local solutions. If our client wants to see a particular doctor regardless of location, we arrange it. Sometimes our client has no preference and only wishes to be seen as soon as possible. In these situations our client may travel for care. There are some circumstances where clients are interested in going to the US for appointments, second opinions, imaging or treatment. FHA makes all of the arrangements.

5. If I decide to pursue a procedure in the US because it can be done sooner, with better technology or because it is less invasive, what kind of relationships do you have with US hospitals?

The hospitals that we choose to work with are all known to be the top hospitals in the US. FHA has confirmed that they are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This ensures that there is a constant effort towards quality care by risk reduction and a compliance with the highest level of healthcare standards. Our clients are always free to choose any hospital or city in the US, and we will be pleased to check their credentials and arrange care.

6. Can you help your clients get into clinical trials?

Yes. There are thousands of open clinical trials in Canada and the US. Finding the right fit for our clients is a valuable service that FHA provides. FHA works with our clients’ doctors to determine the best course of action.

7. Can you help clients deal with the challenges surrounding aging relatives?

Yes. Family Health Advocates understands the multitude of issues that surface with aging relatives. We would be happy to offer assistance with support at home, medical appointments, organization of care and placement in a retirement home.

8. Is there a fee for your services?

FHA is a private company without any government funding. Your initial consultation is complimentary and there is an hourly fee thereafter.
